Let’s Get Cooking!

You will need:

2 Cups of All-Purpose Flour

1/2 cup of Shortening

1 tablespoon of Baking Powder

3/4 cup of Buttermilk

pinch of Salt

White Sausage Gravy:

1 pound of Sausage

1/3 cup of Flour

3-4 cups of Milk

For The Biscuits:

Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together. In a bowl, cut the shortening into the flour until it has a crumb appearance. Pour in the milk and mix until a dough forms. Add a little bit of flour to the counter top and set the biscuit dough in the middle. Roll the biscuit dough to about 1inch thick. Take a biscuit cutter and cut the biscuits out. Place biscuits onto a baking sheet or a cast iron skillet. Brush the top of each biscuit with some melted butter. Bake at 350F for about 10 minutes or until golden brown.

For the Gravy:

Break the sausage into small pieces. In a cast iron skillet or other skillet, brown the sausage until no longer pink and cooked through. Add the flour and stir until dissolved. Pour in the milk and cook on medium-low until thick. Stir continuously. If gravy is too thick, add a little more milk. Season with salt and black pepper. Pour gravy over biscuits. Serve.
